Dinky lauds Ilocos Norte as model

LAOAG CITY— Social Welfare Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Juliano-Soliman has cited Ilocos Norte as model province in poverty reduction campaign.

Of the 247,882 identified poor households in Region 1, it was reported that only 10% or 24,890 indigents reside in Ilocos Norte. All their basic needs were attended to by the joint effort of DSWD and the provincial government of Ilocos Norte.

“Actually, Ilocos Norte is very close to what DSWD and the Millennium Development Goals were trying to achieve which is to eliminate extreme poverty and hunger,” Soliman said.

In a media forum held at the Plaza del Norte, here, she said that Ilocos Norte is not qualified for the poverty reduction program having a mere 9.2% poverty incidence.

For her part, Governor Imee R. Marcos expressed appreciation to the poverty reduction programs being implemented by DSWD in the local level.

The lady governor said the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) or Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) is very effective considering the beneficiaries’ conscious utilization of their cash grants. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
