Regional Director Henry John Jalbuena lauded the BAGNOS Multi-purpose Cooperative of Banna, Ilocos Norte for emerging as the 10th Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan grand winner during the Awarding Ceremony today, November 18, 2016, at the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC).

“Congratulations to the BAGNOS MPC for winning the much-coveted award. It is a victorious day for the whole region 1,”Director Jalbuena said.

A small farmers group, the BAGNOS MPC or Bassit a Ganansia Naurnong Omado Sanikua Multi-purpose Cooperative bested other entries under the micro/informal enterprise category after the judging and deliberations that took place at the OSHC in Quezon City on September 29-30 and October 6.

The enterprise was found to have exemplified excellent workplace innovations and productivity through the application of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) concepts and principles in good housekeeping, storage and handling of materials and hazardous chemicals, protective devices, hand tools and equipment, electrical and fire safety, safety information and job instruction, personal and facility hygiene and waste disposal system.

Director Jalbuena said the BAGNOS MPC was just a small credit facility when the DOLE-RO I provided it with livelihood and productivity assistance for its rice coffee production project on January 22, 2008.

Through time, the project has become an enterprise that provides employment for locals and a show window of good wellness, safety health and productivity practices.

The GKK is a component of the Zero Accident Program (ZAP), one of the flagship programs of the DOLE.
