Alert stickers posted on Ilocos PUVs

LAOAG CITY, August 9 (PIA) – The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Ilocos has started to distribute Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) stickers in public utility vehicles (PUV) to strengthen the public awareness on several safety tips when an earthquake and other calamities occur.

These stickers have printed information on what to do when an earthquake and other hazards happen while on-board the vehicle.

OCD-1 Regional Director Melchito M. Castro said the posting of stickers to PUVs was first conducted in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur on July 23 and in San Fernando City, La Union on July 29.

For Ilocos Norte, the schedule is on August 11 in Laoag City while for Pangasinan, Castro said it will be the soonest possible time.

“The posting of DRRM stickers is one of the components of our Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign for the observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM) in July; and it is our continuing effort with the members of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) Region 1 to keep the public aware on several tips for safety during disaster,” Castro said.

The OCD and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 1 led by Regional Director Armando Ganal also distributed posters that contain information on the types, lead time and effects of tropical cyclones.

The audio-visual presentation showing preparedness on different hazards were also turned over to the local chief executives of region one.

Castro underscored that the support and commitment of the transport groups in this project will help prevent and mitigate the possible destructive effects of the so called the Big One ”. (Freddie G. Lazaro/PIA- 1, Ilocos Norte)
