Duterte’s reimposition of death penalty backed

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos expressed full support to President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s plans to reimpose death penalty to convicted criminals, especially those involved in illegal drugs.

“Sa akin, will ko kay President Digong, magko-comply ang probinsiya ng Ilocos Norte, total compliance kami diyan (sa death penalty),” Governor Marcos said, vowing to continue the battle against crime and illegal drugs in the province.

She also emphasized the importance of protecting “the rights of the citizenry—the youth and the victims of drug pushers and syndicates,” by ensuring their security against prevalent crimes.

Governor Marcos further urged the public to report suspects as well as advised those involved in drug-related activities to surrender to authorities as early as possible.

“Sigurado na handang-handa ang ating kapulisan at handang-handa rin tayong kasuhan ang kailangang kasuhan,” she added.

Earlier this year, the Ilocos Norte Provincial Anti-illegal Drug Special Operation Task Group has arrested some public officials involved in drugs, whom Governor Marcos condemned.

Meanwhile, Governor Marcos assured of the provincial government’s continuous efforts in ensuring a safe and peaceful Ilocos Norte through its cooperation with the joint police and military forces.—(Jennifer T. Pambid, PGIN-CMO)
