These 13 honest drivers are like diamonds–Chevylle

LAOAG CITY, Apr. 22 – The Laoag City government has continued to pay tribute to ordinary people doing extra-ordinary things like honest tricycle drivers.

At least 13 tricycle drivers were cited during the flag raising ceremonies at the Laoag City Hall on Monday for their good deeds and public service.

Mayor Chevylle Fariṅas awarded certificates of recognition to each driver for their exemplary act of honesty.

“This is just the beginning of the many awards that will be given to the ‘ordinary’ people of Laoag who exemplify good deeds that deserve recognition,” she said.

The drivers have returned passenger valuables left behind in their tricycles ranging from cell phones, laptops to cash and important documents.

“The individual photographs of these honest tricycle drivers will be displayed in public places here in an effort to inspire others on the virtues of honesty,” Fariṅas said.

The awardees are: Joy Kris Pagcanlungan, Samuel Bayaca, Efren Ibanes, Dennis Garduque (two awards), Adriano Andres, Allan Domingo, Bernardo Labao, Gerald Solomon, Thomas Factor, Renato Navarro, Roy Macabiog and Marlon Agcaoili.

Fariṅas said recognitions are not only for highly-accomplished individuals.

“It is also meant for ordinary act of goodness and kindness. To become outstanding, you need not be in a highly placed job. You only need to do good,” she said.

She urged the public to inform the City Hall of any exemplary person, establishment or agency in order to give them due recognition.

“I believe that good people are like diamonds that give an honor to the place where they live. As we all say, you can be a hero by just doing one good deed in a day,” Fariṅas added. (Cherry Joy C. Garma/PIA-1, Ilocos Norte)
