74 Barangays Candidate for Best Performing Peace and Order in Laoag

Laoag City, November 23 (PIA) – The search for the best performing peace and order barangay in Laoag is now set for deliberation, this is according to Bernardino R. Rodillas, head of the evaluation committee.

There are seventy-four (74) barangays competing for the title for this year’s search. Forty-seven (47) barangays from the rural category and twenty-seven (27) from the urban category.

The search for the best performing peace and order barangay serves as an instrument in measuring and evaluating peacekeeping performance barangays most particularly the extent of effectiveness of the organizes crime prevention bodies.

This is also one way of checking whether the barangay officials are performing their duties for keeping peace and order in their place. And the extent of cooperation the residents are giving to the local bodies.

“Participation of non-government organization is very important, without the people cooperating with our officials, the peace and order in their barangay can hardly be organized” said Rodillas in an interview.

The evaluation committee composed of representatives from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Arm Forces of the Philippines Retirees Association (AFPRA) and office of the city mayor.

The evaluation started last August 5 and ended last November 18. The evaluation includes the ocular inspection for each barangay.
Awarding for the search is set on February in time for the Pamulinawen Festival celebration in the city. (PIA-1/ Ilocos Norte)
