SN is Hall of Fame’s most business-friendly LGU

SAN NICOLAS, Ilocos Norte, Oct. 27 (PIA) – For the third time in a row, San Nicolas town emerged as the country’s most business-friendly local government unit (LGU) earning the Hall of Fame award from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

This town won the award for three consecutive years from 2012 to 2014 under the municipal category level 1.

Mayor Melanie Grace Valdez and husband Vice Mayor Alfredo P. Valdez, Jr. received personally the plaque of recognition in the awarding rites held at Manila Hotel last Oct. 24.

As winning prize, the town is entitled to receive a free construction of a two–classroom school building.

At present, San Nicolas town is the home of Robinsons Mall, Balai Condominium, 365 Center, Savemore, 7 Eleven, car sales branches of Hyundai, Honda, Nissan, Ford; Metro Bank branch, Gertes Resort, Midland Terraces Resort, Black Nazarene Hospital, Coral Sand Lumber & Construction Supply, and homegrown businesses, among others.

Mayor Valdez, however, said that San Nicolas’ main investment was streamlining procedures in opening a business in line with the Anti-Red Tape Act.

The Most Business-Friendly LGU Award is the PCCI’s initiative to complement the efforts of the government to streamline procedures in compliance with Arta or R.A. 9485.

The award also seeks to recognize and promote models of governance of municipalities, cities and provinces that have demonstrated outstanding efforts in trade investment and tourism promotions; public private partnership, quality management system, innovations and human resource development; micro-small medium enterprise development; inter local government relations; quality customer service plus information on local taxes, disaster risk reduction management and inclusive growth.
