4×4 rides, unsafe? Operators air side

LAOAG CITY (Feb. 12) – Four-by-four jeep operators and drivers have disputed a claim that their 4×4 rides for rent at the La Paz sand dunes here are unsafe for sports ride adventure by tourists and visitors.

The issue came about after a young woman fell off one of the 4×4 vehicles during a recent accident while she and her group were having their joy ride in the sand dunes. She allegedly lost her grip on the roll bars intended for the riders to hold onto it.

Witnesses said that the woman was fortunate that she landed safe on the sandy ground and had no injuries as they quickly rescued her.

A week earlier, another incident occurred where a tourist again fell off from a 4×4 vehicle. He luckily sustained no injuries.

In an interview with a local TV reporter, a 4×4 spokesman said that safety measures are being strictly observed during the rides and they even give basic safety tips prior to the activities.

The 4×4 sports rides in Brgys. La Paz and Talingaan, this city, as well as the similar Paoay sand dunes sports adventures in Suba and Culili Point have become major attraction in the province for both foreign and local tourists. (tsg)
