“Malacañang” Rites Usher in New Beginnings

LAOAG CITY, Jan. 1 (PIA) – The newly-improved Malacañang of the North has opened its doors that welcomed the New Year 2011. The former official rest house of then President Ferdinand Marcos, located in barangay Suba in Paoay town, has undergone a facelift to attract more tourists.

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos had initiated improvements on the former presidential guest house including the spacious grounds fronting the legendary Paoay Lake. Marcos led the opening day rites at the “Balay ti Amianan” as a means that welcomed the new year dubbed as “Baro a Rubuatan” (new beginnings).

The opening day festivities included a fashion display, live acoustics and a fireworks display. The upkeep of the Malacañang of the North has been assigned to the Philippine Tourism Authority for years after President Marcos’s term ended in 1986. (Cristina Arzadon)
