VP BINAY TO ASK MALACAÑANG FOR REWARD FOR THE ARREST OF ABUSIVE EMPLOYERS

Vice President Jejomar C. Binay today said he will ask the Office of the President to offer a reward for the arrest of a couple charged with physically abusing their domestic helper.

The Vice President said while his office does not have an intelligence fund where the reward money can be sourced, the Palace can put up the reward money, similar to the reward money it offered recently for the arrest of property developer Delfin Lee and other high-profile fugitives.

“Naalala ko tuloy yong sa Globe Asiatique. We were contemplating na magbibigay kami ng reward. Di pumayag ang COA e. Probably we will make recommendations to the Office of the President,” he added.

Binay also urged authorities to fast-track the arrest of the employers who maltreated Bonita Baran.

According to the Vice President, Baran’s former employers, Analiza and Reynold Marzan, went into hiding after Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 77 Judge Germano Legaspi issued a warrant for their arrest.

According to Baran, her employers had hit her repeatedly with plates, vases and a broomstick, and that her female employer pressed a hot flat iron on her face, and as a result, she lost her eyesight.

Meanwhile, Binay also lauded the approval by the House of Representatives of House Bill (HB) 6144 which establishes standards of protection for domestic workers in the country.
