Ramon Magsaysay Jr. pushes for ‘HERO, JOBS’ in Senate

Former Senator Ramon “Jun” Magsaysay Jr. is pushing for an honest, effective, responsive and open (HERO) government when he gets elected in the Senate, signaling the start of his official campaign to continue the pro-poor and reform-oriented governance of the current administration.

Also, Jun Magsaysay is pitching for JOBS—which stands for Justice, Opportunities, Business and Security—with programs to strengthen the legal justice system and promote social justice, provide opportunities for education and employment, advocate a business-friendly environment to attract more investments and achieve a lasting peace particularly in Mindanao to boost tourism and develop rural areas.

“HERO and JOBS are my twin formula to continue what I have started as a senator for 12 years. I have considered as guidepost the credo of the late President Magsaysay, ‘Those who have less in life should have more in law.’

“With the remarkable reforms initiated by President Aquino, we believe that we can continue with our programs that can bring about change into our society,” said Magsaysay at the proclamation rally of Team Pnoy senatorial candidates at the historic Plaza Miranda on Tuesday.

As for his scholarship program, even as a private individual, Jun Magsaysay continues to provide scholarships to needy but deserving students. To date, more than 17,000 have been recipients of Iskolar ni Jun Magsaysay, with assistance ranging from voc-tech courses, agriculture and fisheries, post-graduate studies and law.

In his second term, Magsaysay unearthed the Fertilizer Fund Scam involving P2.8 billion in fund releases under the past leadership.

“We do not want that to happen again. That is why I ran under the banner of the Team PNoy because we believe in the current leadership of PNoy that he will support our anti-corruption stance,” said Magsaysay.

Integrity. Honesty. Discipline. Hard work. Simplicity. The core values of Ramon “Jun” Magsaysay, Jr.
