LC Mourns The Death Of Its Vice Mayor

Vice Mayor Edward P. Domingo passed away at dawn on September 29, 2012 because of cardiac arrest. He was 73.

More popularly known as “Sapatos” by all Laoagueños because of his long established shoe repair shop business,  the Vice Mayor was a public servant for most of his professional life. He served as Barangay Chairman of Brgy. 11 Sta. Balbina for more than ten years before becoming a member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod in 1976. He again served for 11 years. In 1995 he became Vice Mayor of Laoag City for three full terms. He ran for Mayor in 2004 but lost to Hon. Michael V. Fariñas, then became Vice Mayor again in 2007.

His death came two days before the official filing of Certificates of Candidacy for the 2013 elections, where he was supposed to run for his second third term as Vice Mayor, probably unopposed and definitely one for the history books. Mayor Fariñas described the Vice Mayor as a good leader and a true public servant, well liked by everyone.

Senior Sangguniang Panlungsod member Atty. Donald Nicolas immediately became Vice Mayor by virtue of the Rule on Succession. However, out of respect for the deceased, Mayor Fariñas said that Atty. Nicolas will take his oath and assume his new post after the interment .
