Located in the heart of the city, this two-storey dilapidated wooden structure of YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association) has been condemned by Laoag engineer’s office, hence, it’s no longer safe for human occupancy. The question is — which entity would do the demolition job on this vintage building. As demolition is uncertain, this edifice made of light materials poses as fire hazard endangering the residential houses nearby.
Tourism advocates also dubbed it as public eyesore. Unknown to many ‘bagets’, this YMCA building was the popular nerve center of many significant local youth sports events and conferences in the 1960s till 1990s in Ilocos Norte.
