CURRIMAO, Ilocos Norte (Jan. 1) — Evelyn Hope Pinalapal, 17, scholar, dreamed to become a policewoman someday, her parents noted. But sad to say, a tragedy struck the family as she and her uncle drowned in the beach off Barangay Pangil, this town yesterday, a pre-New Year’s Day celebration, a police report said.
Investigation showed that the two victims of Brgy. Parangopong, Batac City, together with other relatives went picnicking off Pangil beach near the famous rock formation.
Witnesses said that at the height of fun, the girl dipped into the water when suddenly big waves came crashing down on her. When her uncle sensed she was in danger, he dived in a bid to rescue her but in the process, he too perished.
Rescuers plucked the duo from the shore and took them to the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital in Batac City, but doctors failed to revive the victims. (IS)
