Police ‘asset’ dies in Paoay ambush

PAOAY, Ilocos Norte, Jan. 15–Tricycle driver Murphy Barboza, whom lawmen claimed to be their ‘police asset’ was killed in an ambush along the Batac-Paoay road at Brgy. Salbang here last night, police said.

Barboza, 28, married, a native of Abra province but residing at Brgy. 1 San Juan, this town, sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body. He was rushed to the nearby Batac hospital where he expired later.

The police SOCO team found 21 empty shells of bullets for M16 Armalite rifle at the crime scene.
Investigation showed that the victim, driving his tricycle, ferried earlier a passenger to nearby Batac City.

He was returning home to Paoay with another lone female passenger when the gunman waylaid him. The suspect fled on foot after the shooting.

The woman passenger on board was hit in the shoulder by an astray bullet. Doctors declared her out of danger.

Angeline, the victim’s wife, told reporters that in case he would die he wished his remains would be brought to his hometown in Abra.(Tri-media report)
