Old man drowns while catching frogs for food

PAOAY, Ilocos Norte, June 17–Maximiano Ligsay, 63, widower, farmer of Brgy. Cayubo, this town drowned in a waistline-deep irrigation canal, police reported.

Capt. Eddie Suyat, town police chief, said the victim went to catch frogs and fish Saturday morning in nearby Brgy. Pambaran here when he apparently tripped on his fishnet.

When outbalanced, he allegedly fell into the water.

The fishnet was seen entangled on his feet when rescuers found him.

Dr. Alfredo Domingo, municipal health officer, examined the body and found no sign of foul play in the victim’s death. (tri-media report)
