LAOAG CITY – The newly elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federated president of Ilocos Norte has formally assumed as the designated chairman of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Committee on Youth and Sports during the provincial board regular session held at the Capitol Bldg. here last July 16, 2018.

SP ex-officio member Rafael Salvador Chua Medina said that his chairmanship of the said committee entails a big challenge and responsibility.

As the voice of the youth in the legislative body, he vowed to be in the forefront to advocate and pursue programs for youth and sports development.

On the issue of illegal drug menace facing the youth, he said that he would spearhead meetings and seminars to help disseminate the ill-effects to the mind and body when using illegal drugs.

He added that he would also seek the help of the Department of Health (DOH) for the medical treatment and rehab of those who already got hooked into the vice.

Livelihood and self-reliance projects would also be offered to those youthful offenders who wish to return to normal lives and become law-abiding citizens, the SK leader stressed.

He also expressed deep concern for the mental health such as depression, suicide as well as teenage pregnancy and the woes of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) community.
