A former councilor of the municipality of Dingras and his companion were killed after they were shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Laoag City last Wednesday afternoon.

Killed were ex-councilor Nathaniel Ruben Taylan II, 32, of Dingras who until the time of his death was living in Barangay 13, Laoag City; and his companion Joefrey Blanes, 45, who was from Barangay 12, Laoag City.

The victims had just come from a cockpit arena in Vintar town and arrived at Taylan’s residence aboard a private tricycle driven by Blanes when the motorcycle-riding assailants drove by and opened fire at them at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday.

They were taken to the hospital, but did not survive the bullet wounds they sustained. Four deformed slugs and nine bullet casings for a 9 mm pistol were found at the crime scene.

Supt. Edwin Balles, city police chief, told reporters that the victims were listed as alleged drug personalities in the city and that angle is being pursued in the investigation. (Freddie G. Lazaro/PIA)
