Dr. Manuel warns public vs. bottled gasoline

LAOAG CITY (July 26) – Dr. Melvin Manuel, head of the city’s licensing department, has reminded the public against buying retailed gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products contained in bottles of soft drinks commonly known as “bote-bote” gasoline for they pose a public hazard being flammable.

He likewise warned any retailers that “peddling of liquid fuels in any containers such as soda bottles, plastic bottles, jugs and other portable containers” is strictly prohibited” under City Ordinance No. 191 of 2005.

Lately, Dr. Manuel said local government authorities raided a house at Brgy. 7-B here and confiscated 17 cases of soft drink bottles filled with gasoline ready for sale.

He said despite that the suspect was advised to stop her illegal trade, she ignored the warning and continued doing it
For her offense, she will pay P10,000 as a penalty under the said city ordinance, he added.
