Cop shot dead not for politics but due to road rage–PNP

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte, April 22–Lt. Col. Angelito de Juan, the chief investigator of the Ilocos Norte police provincial office at Camp Juan, Laoag City, ruled out politics in the fatal shooting here of Police Corporal Wilbert Rarogal Jr.

He said the killing of the policeman was not politically motivated but a simple case of road rage.

Reports showed that the victim, a member of the Cordillera police force, was vacationing here when the incident happened.

Police tagged a barangay chairman as the alleged companion of the gunman who rode with him in a motorcycle and shot the victim who was also with another group.

At press time, town police chief Capt. Jonval Maramag confirmed reports that the barangay chairman and the unidentified gunman were already charged with murder and four counts of attempted murder as well as a violation of the Omnibus Election Code. (tri-media report)
