Solar power pump for Tabug zanjera

BATAC CITY, Dec. 13  — The Batac city government has turned over another solar-fed water pump to a beneficiary village to help farmers cope with the rising cost of fuel and farm implements.
The solar pump was given to the Paludipan Zanjera Irrigators Association (PZIA) in Barangay Tabug during a simple turn over ceremony recently with city and village officials in attendance.

According to the 75 member- farmers’ association, the water pump project is a solution to the escalating prices of fuel and a support to more productive agricultural outputs.

Purchased at P600,000, the solar project was funded by the “Tulong ti Barangay Fund” of Mayor Jeffrey Jubal Nalupta.

The pump was the third solar-powered facility that was given to farmers’ group. The first was installed in Barangay Camandingan while the other was in Barangay Palongpong which was similarly funded by the mayor.

The project is part of Nalupta’s program of counter-parting pre-post-harvest facilities offered by the Department of Agriculture on 85%-15% counterparting scheme.

Under the scheme, three units of hand tractor were awarded to Quigteng Sanjera of Barangay Quiling Sur, Maipalig Centro Sanjera of Barangay Maipalig and Naguirangan-Capacuan Sanjera Irrigators Association of Barangays Naguirangan and Capacuan. A unit of shallow tube well (STW) was also awarded to Paludipan Sanjera of Tabug. (Ma. Cristina C. Arzadon)
