LAOAG CITY — The Commission on Election-Ilocos Norte has assessed there was ‘no failure of elections’ in the province.

“I believe that we just conducted an honest, free, clean, and credible electoral exercises,” said Patrick Mangosing, Election Assistant of the provincial Comelec, on the conduct of Sangguniang Kabataan and Barangay Elections on May 14.

Although there were minimal reports of untoward incidents in some areas, Comelec provincial supervisor Alipio Castillo III, cited the quick response of the provincial police force and pollwatchers.
At the opening of precincts at 7AM, locals gathered around elementary schools which served as polling areas in every municipality to cast their votes on their bets.

The police force under Provincial Director S/Supt. Cesar Pasiwen was deployed in all poll precincts to ensure order and security in the area.

At least 500 cops and 80 army soldiers were deployed in the entire province during the election period, Col. Pasiwen said.

A case of alleged political tension was reported in Bacarra but it was quickly resolved.(Ma. Joreina Therese A. Blanco/PIA1)
