LAOAG CITY, July 12 (PIA) – The public is advised to take necessary precautions and be alert for the coming of the rainy season.

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos said the public should make sure of their safety when unfavorable weather conditions like typhoons hit the province.

“They have to safeguard their families and make sure their home is secured,” said Marcos.

The governor also advised the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Resiliency Council (PDRRMC) to conduct close monitoring particularly in low-lying areas here.

Marcos also hopes that the Ilocanos will revive the value of preparing before rainy season like checking their homes from the roof to the walls, as part of disaster preparedness.

She said the communities should be at the forefront in their community and avoid full reliance on the provincial government for their safety.

Community officials, for instance, must take the lead in cleaning especially canals and rivers to avoid flooding incidents during typhoon and heavy, continuous rain.

“For public safety, the community plays a big role in helping the government,” she added.
Meanwhile, the PDRRMC in Ilocos Norte always eyes for a zero casualty during disasters. (Cherry Joy D. Garma/PIA-1, Ilocos Norte)
