Ex-Laoag police chief gunned down in Sarrat

LAOAG CITY (Aug. 10) – The Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office has formed a special investigation task group ‘(SITG) GOROSPE’ to lead the investigation on the killing of retired Senior Superintendent Jeffrey Gorospe, a former police chief of Laoag City.

Gorospe was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman at about 10:35 Tuesday night, while having a drinking spree with four other companions in a nipa hut in Brgy. San Manuel, Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, his hometown.

Investigation showed that Gorospe sustained gunshot wounds in his lower back and left thigh. His companions were spared from the attack.
Police recovered 11 empty shells of bullets for M16 Armalite rifle at the crime scene.

Gorospe was declared dead on arrival at the Black Nazarene Hospital in nearby San Nicolas town.

C/Insp. Dexter Corpuz, head of police community relations office of INPPO, said that he had known Gorospe ever since the latter entered the Philippine Constabulary-Integrated National Police (PC-INP) service in 1987.

He knew Col. Gorospe as a dedicated, brave and multi-awarded police officer.

Gorospe was 55 years old, married and resident of San Antonio village, Sarrat town.

C/Inspector Corpuz said that investigators are gaining headway in the investigation on the killing of S/Supt. Gorospe but declined to give further details.

He added that probers will review on previous cases in which he was actively involved during his time as chief of police.
Records from the INPPO showed that Gorospe retired from service on October 2015. (Tri-media report)
