Young writers undergo training for campus journalism bout

BATAC CITY, Nov. 22 (PIA) – Some 600 budding writers gathered in the third Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) of Batac City which aims to train students in preparation for the regional competition on Dec. 6-10 in Mangaldan, Pangasinan.
Susan Aspili, schools supervisor in English and Filipino said that from the 600 participants, 77 were proclaimed winners from each category including Iluko writing and broadcasting.

“Aside from the students that were ranked until 7th placer, the schools were also awarded according to their accumulated points,” Aspili said.

The Mariano Marcos State University Integrated University Laboratory Elementary School topped the overall ranking in the elementary level while the Mariano Marcos State University-Integrated University Laboratory School was proclaimed champion in the secondary level.

The two-day schools press conference which started on Thursday carried the theme “The Role of 21st Century Campus Journalists in Upholding Good Governance, Leadership and Transparency.” It was also the nationwide theme for the event.

The winners will represent the City Schools Division of Batac (CSDB) in the coming Regional Schools Press Conference in Mangaldan National High School, Pangasinan.

The CSDB provided more training and workshop for the division representatives three days before the main competition.

“The pupils and students are aggressive and competitive and the parents are very supportive as well as their coaches and advisers, I hope this time we can bring home more awards,” Aspili said.
