Village chieftain waylaid

PINILI, Ilocos Norte, Nov. 15–Four gunmen ambushed a village chieftain of Brgy. Capangdanan, this town while on his way home from the town hall before noon today, report said.

Relatives said the victim identified as first-term barangay chairman Albert Naidas, 48, married, died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds in the body.

Witnesses said the victim headed for home aboard his motorcycle when two suspects riding in tandem blocked his path and fired at him.

His motorcycle crashed and he fell to the ground bloodied near a waiting shed.

From the opposite direction, another two suspects also on board a motorcycle arrived. The back rider alighted and shot him several times to finish him off, the witness told reporters noting all the suspects wore helmets.

Responding lawmen led by police chief Gerardo Antonio cordoned the area but the suspects  had already escaped and fled towards the national highways.

Antonio told reporters the perpetrators used caliber .45 and .9mm pistols in the killing based on the empty shells found at the crime scene.
