Tree planting at ‘Kapurpurawan ’

BURGOS, Ilocos Norte — Local officials and residents of this coastal  town conducted a tree planting and greening activity at the tourist  spot “Kapurpurawan Rock Formation.”

Participants, carrying tools and seed saplings, marched to the Kapurpurawan which is located more than three kilometers away from the highway.

“This is our way of appreciating nature and at the same time help preserve our environment by cleaning our coastal areas and plant more trees, Brgy. Poblacion Chairperson Joegie Jimenez said.

The group planted 100 mahogany saplings in barren areas where visitors pass through to go to Kapurpurawan.

Participants also took part in cleaning the area around the rock formation, freeing it from unsightly view of scraps and trashes.

“I hope that with this activity our residents will become more aware of their role to care for the environment and participate actively in supporting projects and programs such as this,” Jimenez said.

This is the second year Brgy. Poblacion locals carried-out such program.

Next year, the group plans to intensify the program with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) by planting more trees ideal for coastal areas. (ANL/CDG-PIA 1 Ilocos Norte)
