Tourism towns in Ilocos Norte to benefit from DPWH-DOT convergence project

Towns of Pagudpud and Burgos in Ilocos Norte are included in the line-up of the infrastructure development project forged between the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Tourism (DOT).

These are the ‘Kapurpurawan Rock Formation’ Road in Burgos and Macini-Daduang Sand Road in Pagudpud, which will connect national roads going to the said tourist spots site.

The two villages are part of the Development Tourism Areas of this province that are needed to be improved in order to make the roads accessible to tourists when visiting the province especially during peak seasons.

The project called “Convergence Program for Enhancing Tourism Access” of the DPWH-DOT aims to refurbish tourism infrastructure projects in priority tourist destination areas in the Philippines.

A Memorandum of Agreement has been signed between the DPWH and the DOT for the realization of the said project.

Milagros Gonzales of the Department of Tourism in Ilocos Norte said, the project will benefit the province to further boosts its tourism industry.

“Infrastructure plays a very critical role in tourism development, it will make our tourism spots in the province more accessible for the tourists” Gonzales said.

Pagudpud and Burgos are two of the five areas in region 1 that were chosen to be the first beneficiaries of the project.

Other areas are Bantay-San Ildefonso Section (Manila North Widening Road) in Bantay, Ilocos Sur; Bangrin, Magrove Access Road in Bani, Pangasinan; and the Napudot Road, Balungao, also in Pangasinan.

The project is expected to be in operation for the year 2013 to 2016. (PIA1-Ilocos Norte/ Cherry Joy D. Garma)
