Sworn in, Chevylle becomes first female mayor of Laoag

Mayor ChevylleLAOAG CITY, July 3 — Provincial officials have started their fresh mandates after being sworn into office at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena on June 28.

Governor Imee Marcos, now on her second term, took her oath before Judge Benjamin Turgano and later led the mass oath taking of elected provincial officials here.

City mayors Chevylle V. Farinas (Laoag City) and Jeffrey Jubal Nalupta (Batac City) were sworn into office by Judge Philip Salvador.

Chevylle, the first female Laoag mayor, was former president of the Association of Barangay Chairman (ABC) and wife of first-term Laoag Vice Mayor Michael V. Farinas who completed his third term as Laoag mayor.

Nalupta is now oh his second term as Batac mayor.

The mass oath-taking, dubbed “Inspiring Ilocos Norte the Ilocano way,” is in line with the governor’s ‘One Ilocos Norte’ campaign.

In her speech, Marcos reminded officials to continue serving the Ilocanos and to give Ilocos Norte the success and development it deserves.

Officials assumed office yesterday and will serve up for the next three years. (Cherry Joy S. Discaya)
