Solo art exhibit at Dr. Cuanang’s resort

CURRIMAO, Ilocos Norte, Dec. 05 — Internationally-renowned Filipino artist Jose Santos III will make Ilocos Norte the home of his works as he holds his solo exhibit at the artful Sitio Remedios seaside resort in this town on December 10.

Staged by the Sitio Remedios Art Projects and the Silangan Foundation for the Arts, Culture and Ecology, the Santos exhibit is meant to promote art in the Ilocos Region and, in the process, generate Ilocanos’ interest in visual art.

Another Filipino artist group, which included Ben Cabrera and Jon Pettyjohn, also organized an art festival at the eco-adventure sand dunes of Laoag in January making Ilocos Norte another destination for art enthusiasts.

Resort owner and art patron Dr. Joven Cuanang said the Ilocos exhibit comes on the heels of Santos’ yet another international exposure in Hongkong where his new works were part of the 2010 and 2011 Christie’s Spring Auctions.

Christie’s is an international company that offers art auctions and private sales to clients around the globe.

Santos was chosen as one of the Thirteen Artists Awardees by the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2000. In 2005, his works were included by Christie’s (Hong Kong) and Larasati (Indonesia) in their respective auctions of contemporary Asian art. In the same year, his works were part of a group show titled “Portal Shifts” in Singapore. In 2006, he had a one-man show titled “Journey” in Singapore.

The Santos exhibit, dubbed “Sneak Peek,” will be shown at the Sitio Remedios’ Centro Iloco de Juan Luna Hall on Saturday at 4pm.
