Remove debris, winners told

LAOAG CITY, May 22 — Ilocos Norte’s Team Operation Linis is calling on all winning candidates to help remove campaign posters littered everywhere in the aftermath of the elections.

Led by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), the group has shifted its operation from “Baklas” to “Linis” after the May 13 elections.

The multi-sectoral groups that provided support to the PENRO’s illegal campaign posters clean-up drive will be the same group that will sweep Ilocos Norte of campaign debris.

PENRO Officer Juan P. Delos Reyes Jr. said that he will reconvene members who will be deployed around the province to tear down remaining posters.

De los Reyes had earlier called on candidates to be responsible in dismantling their own campaign posters and set an example among their constituents.

In the Operation Baklas prior to the elections, PENRO got the support of the Commission on Elections, the Philippine National Police, the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Philippine Information Agency, non-governmental organizations, private media, and other environment advocates in tearing down election materials that were illegally posted during the campaign period.

During that time, the team was able to seize a mini-truck load of campaign materials made of plastic silicon and waxed papers.

Delos Reyes said that election materials can be put to good use by recycling. (MCA/ CJDG- PIA1 Ilocos Norte)#
