Radioman was slain 7 years ago but where is justice?

SAN NICOLAS, Ilocos Norte, August 2 — Members of the Ilocos Norte media remain hopeful that the seven year-old murder case of radio commentator Roger Mariano will be given closure under the Aquino administration.
Officers of the Media Active in Ilocos Norte visited the ambush site in Barangay Barabar this town where Mariano was slain while riding home in a his motorcycle on July 31 seven years ago.
His media colleagues lighted seven candles at the ambush site concrete marker to symbolize how long the murder has remained unsolved.
The group said they pinned hopes on President Aquino’s promise to resolve extra-judicial killings in the country and put an end to impunity.
“We are confident with P-Noy’s commitment to bring justice to the families of slain journalists and put an end to media killings,” they said.
A former policeman and another suspect who were the principal accused in the murder were acquitted in August 2010.
Judge Reynaldo Alhambra of the Manila regional trial court found no evidence directly linking former police officer Apolonio Medrano and Basilio Yadao to the case which dragged for six years until it was terminated with the suspects’ acquittal.
