Race at Gilbert bridge fatal to 2 riders

LAOAG CITY – A driver and his companion died when the motorcycle they were riding in rammed a meat delivery truck that stalled at the Gilbert bridge here due to mechanical trouble.

A closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage released by the police to the media showed that the victims were allegedly driving at high speed as they raced against three other motorcycles.

Investigators theorized that the driver may have not noticed the parked truck with an early warning device.

The EWD should have been installed a few meters away from the rear and not too close to the truck rear section, traffic enforcers said.

Police identified the fatalities as Jedrick Gambol and Gerald Olivar, both 20 years old.
With the apparent increased incidents of motorcycle accidents, police reminded all motorcycle riders to always drive safely by observing speed limit. (tsg)
