PAOAY, Ilocos Norte – PNP Provincial Director PS/Supt. Albert Ocon reported that the municipality of Paoay has been included in the election watchlist in the coming May 2016 election.
Ocon said that the basis of inclusion were “existence of intense political rivalry and occurrence of election related violence incidents in the past two elections in 2010 and 2013.”
Vice Mayor Jessie Galano welcomed this development saying that this would spawn cooperation among police authorities and political rivalries to prevent the happening of any election related violence.
Galano said that he is optimistic that no election violence would take place in their community since all the town’s political rivals are mature and know that next year’s election is just another political exercise.
Earlier, the municipalities of Bacarra, Bangui, Pasuquin, Pagudpud, Vintar, Badoc, Marcos Solsona have been under Comelec election watchlist. (tsg)
