NUJP Extends Aid to Slain Broadcaster’s Family Members

BACARRA, Ilocos Norte (Aug. 25) – The Manila-based National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) has extended financial and moral support to the family of slain DZJC radio commentator-reporter Lito Agustin, a native of Brgy. Natba of this town.

NUJP director Rowena Paraan and her team of journalists came all the way from Manila and arrived here to see personally the plight of Agustin’s widow Sheryl and two young children.

Agustin was killed in an ambush three months ago in nearby Brgy. Barit in Laoag after his radio program as he headed for home in a motorcycle together with his nephew.

Ms. Paraan said her team also visited the city prosecutor’s office and discussed with the fiscals about the progress of the Agustin case.

“We would exert pressure on the police investigators as well as the government prosecutors to speed up their probe on the murder case against the Agustin killers and alleged mastermind,” she said. (JRG)
