Is there truth to the report that New People’s Army had recently engaged in extortion activities in Ilocos Norte?
Gov. Imee Marcos raised this query during the provincial peace and order council (PPOC) meeting held at the Tabacalera Building here.
Marcos said that she received reports that suspected NPAs were sighted in some villages in the northern part of the province where they allegedly tried to extort money from private contractors of ongoing windmill projects in Burgos and Pagudpud towns.
As this developed, PNP Provincial Director S/Supt. Antonio Mendoza, Jr. said that INPPO is still validating these alleged NPA sighting reports.
Philippine Army officials, on the other hand, said Ilocos Norte remains as one of the insurgency-free provinces in Region 1 since 2011. (Theo S. Guiang)
