LAOAG CITY (Oct. 15) – A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) has voluntarily surrendered to the Ilocos Norte Provincial Police Office at Camp Juan here recently.
PNP provincial director S/Supt. Marlou Chan identified the rebel returnee as Danny Butac, alias “Ka Lando”, 53, resident of Brgy. Isic-isic, Vintar, Ilocos Norte.
Butac said he decided to return to the fold of the law because of the hard life in the mountains and wishes to live a “normal life.”
He recalled that he joined the communist group when he was 27 years old. His group operated in Marag Valley, Apayao; Cabugao, Ilocos Sur; Montalban, Rizal and Pangasinan. (Theo S. Guiang)
