Northwind to post P4.6M bond

BANGUI, Ilocos Norte—The Northwind Power Development Corporation is willing to post a P4.6 million bond to comply with a provincial ordinance which promotes the principle of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to all businesses operating in Ilocos Norte.

Northwind Chief executive and president Ferdinand Dumlao said that due to oversight on the existing ordinance, the expansion program of Northwind was halted for failing to construct a landing ramp in the coastal village of Bayog in nearby Burgos town.

Dumlao explained that their failure to comply with the said ordinance was unintentional and they were very much willing to comply have they known it on time.

Under the ordinance, it mandates all business investors to present a list of projects under the CSR.

A landing ramp was not built due to the decision of Burgos Mayor Cresente Garcia disallowing any landing ramp in his town for fear of a dreadful effect on the fish sanctuary near the area.

However, it was ultimately constructed in Pasuquin town where there was no obvious environment consequences, it was learned. Landing ramp is where the turbines are transported into the construction site.

Dumlao added that their expansion program includes the construction of additional six wind turbines in the existing wind farm. (Theo S. Guiang)
