Night fire burns Army detachment armory

CURRIMAO, Ilocos Norte, July 18–Assorted firearms including high–powered weapons, ammunition, modern gadgets and other supply were totally burned when fire razed to the ground the armory/stock room at the barrack of the army detachment located in this town last night.

A lone soldier, who was guarding the armory, quickly shouted for help but the flame spread so fast because the barrack was made of light materials, said 1 Lt. Edward Neil Camarillo, detachment commander. “At first, we thought the army detachment was being attacked by enemy as we heard loud explosion,” a civilian witness told reporters.

Responding firemen of Currimao and nearby Paoay quickly arrived at the fire scene but the blaze had already totally burned the army barrack and arsenal.(tsg/dd/al)
