LAOAG CITY, June 26 – As the June 21, 2010 bloody ambush on the group of Pagudpud Mayor Maja Sales marked one year, a new provincial prosecutors’ panel was also formed to reinvestigate the incident
as per order by Department of Justice.
The DOJ order came as it dissolved the old panel formed by then provincial prosecutor Melecio Felipe who was relieved recently and reassigned to the regional state prosecutor’s office in La Union.
The new panel is composed of OIC provincial prosecutor Maria Luisa Calija as chair and assistant prosecutors Virgie Lumuntad and Rommel Calupig as members.
Record showed that at least eleven respondents were tagged by police as suspects in the Mayor Sales ambush incident at Burgos, Ilocos Norte a year ago where two bodyguards of Sales perished and another wounded.
The lady mayor and Bombo radio reporter Lita Baptista who hitched ride in the mayor’s van survived the ambush.(excel d. guiang)
