New Gov’t Info Officers Group Formed to Drumbeat State’s Policies, Programs

LAOAG CITY (March 21)–A group of government information officers in Ilocos Norte was formally organized with the election of officers recently aimed to hype policies, programs and activities of all LGUs and government agencies.

Spearheaded by the Philippine Information Agency-Laoag Information Center, the Ilocos Norte Association of Government Information Officers (INAGIO) is composed of information officers of government agencies and local government units in the province. Its primary role is to help the Executive Branch in disseminating the government’s message directly to private media entities. It also serves as the agency’s or LGU’s communication arm whose task is to produce news releases on policies, programs, projects and activities that would enhance the people’s capabilities to identify opportunities for development.

Following its organization and elections held at the PIA-Laoag Infocen, the newly elected officers are Fehlander Madriaga of the Department of Science & Technology, president; June Arvin Gudoy of Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, vice-president Wilma Eda of Department of Education, secretary; Racquel Guzman of Department of Social Welfare & Development, Treasurer; Ramon Formantes of Laoag City Government, PRO; and Leonavella Dadiz of the Department of Labor & Employment, Business Manager.

The officers and members pledged to work together and uphold its newly-enacted Constitution and By-Laws to promote government development programs in Ilocos Norte. The organization shall be coordinating its activities through the secretariat of the PIA-Laoag Infocen.

Laoag Infocen Manager Cristina Arzadon and her staff vowed to assist the INAGIO members in capability building programs such as the holding of writers’ trainings and workshops. (Carlo P. Canares)
