Municipal assessor suspended for six months

LAOAG CITY, July 18 – The Office of the Ombudsman slapped a six-month preventive suspension against the municipal assessor of Vintar, Ilocos Norte.

The case stemmed from a complaint wherein the town assessor allegedly asked P20,000 cash from a local businessman in exchange for speedy processing of his application for business license.

As this developed, the accused’s legal counsel is readying a motion of appeal to the Court of Appeals seeking for a review of the Ombudsman decision. His lawyer argued that the suspension should be junked since both the criminal and administrative complaint against the accused had been dismissed earlier.

His lawyer further argued that the Ombudsman erred in issuing the suspension order noting that its basis was not incorporated in the complaint.(Theo S. Guiang)
