Model family winners bared

LAOAG CITY, Dec. 3 – The family of a town councilor was adjudged one of the three winners for the 2013 Model Family in Ilocos Norte.

Governor Imee Marcos said the contest recognized families with exemplary achievement which the public can emulate.

“These chosen model families will (inspire) other families to succeed in their socio–economic living,” Marcos said.

Nelinda Erice, chairperson of the Gender and Development (GAD) in Ilocos Norte, said the search for model family had three categories such as professional, non-professional and overseas Filipino worker (OFW).

The winners were Bacarra town councilor Bonifacio Miguel and his family for the professional category; Norberto Gamiao and his family from Vintar town for the non-professional category and Rafael M. Retinio and his family of Batac City for the OFW category.

Erice said that the winners and runner–ups including the finalists received cash awards and certificate of recognition in simple ceremonies held at the provincial capitol.

“The first placers of each category received a cash prize amounting to P5,000 plus certificate; the second placers got P4,000.00 each and the third placers, P3,000 each,” she said.

The non-winning contenders from the different towns received P1,000 each as consolation prize and a certificate.

The towns of Pinili, Badoc, Solsona and Batac City received a special prize for fielding a family in each category.

Meanwhile, the Laoag City government honored its 2013 Model Family in a simple rite held at the city’s auditorium.

City Mayor Chevylle Fariñas handed plaques of recognition to the winners and finalists namely the Mamuad family for the OFW category from Barangay 52A, San Mateo; the Antonio family for the non-professional category from Barangay 54B, Camanggaan and the Quindara family for the professional category from Barangay 32A, Lapaz.
