MMSU coed wins statistics quiz

BATAC CITY  (Nov. 28) – A first-year accounting student at the Mariano Marcos State University  topped  the recently concluded Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) held at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas here.

Rowena Mhay Modena bested 35 other contestants from various colleges and universities in the region and won the championship trophy and  P5,000 cash.

“Ang PSQ ay isang patimpalak na ginagawa taon-taon upang masukat ang kahusayan ng mga estudyante sa larangan ng estadistika, at upang mabigyang kaalaman ang publiko sa kahalagahan ng stadistika sa pagpapaulnad ng lipunan,” ayon kay National Statistics Office (NSO) OIC-Regional Director Socrates Ramores.

Other winners were Keneth C. Carin and Angeli Lolita B. Gumaru, both of DMMMSU-MLUC, who placed second and third, respectively;  Von Mark F. Manuel of KSBF-Pangasinan, fourth place; and Bee Jay Magallanes of UNP Ilocos Sur, fifth.

These five winners will represent the region in the PSQ national finals on Dec. 4 in Manila.

Now on its 21st year, this yearly contest is being organized by the  National Statictics Office (NSO) and Philippine Statistical Association since 1992. (Theo S. Guiang with report from Maria Asuncion Tuazon)
