Mayor Pillos survives assasssination try

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Re-electionist Mayor Salvador Pillos survived an assassination attempt staged by two motorcycle-riding gunmen here at about  5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4., lawmen reported.

Police said the mayor was inspecting a construction project in front of the Marcos Agro-industrial School when the suspects drove towards him. The co-rider quickly drew a gun and shot him wounding him in the shoulder and thigh.

Atty. Ferdinand Ignacio, legal counsel of Mayor Pillos, said that the mayor was rushed to nearby Dingras district hospital for treatment of his gunshot wounds.

Elements of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office and Marcos Police Station conducted pursuit operations against the suspects who reportedly fled towards a mountainous area of the town.

Police found the alleged motorcycle used by suspects as a getaway vehicle a few kilometers from the crime scene.

Acting police provincial director Senior Superintendent Gerardo Ratuita said they are looking deeper into incident to know the motive behind the shooting.
