Mayor MVF Inaugurates 5 New Projects

LAOAG CITY – Five in a row is just the best description for the series of inaugurations initiated by the city government headed by City Mayor Michael V. Fariñas held on July 8 for five newly-built projects namely, Laoag City Library Hub, the Girl Scouts of the Philippines Headquarters (GSP), Department of Education- Laoag City Division Office, the Bureau of Fire Department and the Laoag City General Hospital.

St. William Cathedral parish priest Reverend Monsignor Polly Albano simultaneously blessed the new building projects and witnessed by city officials, stakeholders of the different organizations, and the media. Also present were ABC President Chevylle V. Fariñas, Vice Mayor Eddie P. Domingo, the Sangguniang Panlungsod members and officials and employees of the Laoag City Division Office.

The inauguration culminated at the DepEd-Laoag City building with the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon by City Mayor Farinas and assisted by the Schools Division Superintendent Araceli C. Pastor.

The new site houses the different department offices with its new layout. The office of the Superintendent is directly connected to the offices of the Assistant and the Supervisory Staff. Easy access to the Administrative Department was carefully planned, and the Medical and Dental Clinics are strategically placed in a conspicuous location.

The Records, Supply, and the Conference Hall occupy the second floor. Every office is provided with working tables and computer units connected to the internet. The beautifully landscaped garden at the back gives the new structure a fresh and relaxing effect while a spacious parking area completes the extensive and friendly façade of this white and green edifice.

“I am willing to partner in putting up the Library Hub” was the mayor’s commitment to the Schools Division Superintendent two years ago when the project proposal for a Library Hub was presented to the former DepEd Secretary, Hon. Jesli Lapus on June 29, 2009.

The hub will serve as ‘warehouse’ of books for bulk borrowing by public schools of the city and for other library needs of learners and educators. With books in the waiting and a newly organized project team, the hub will soon be in full operation. (Ramon B. Formantes)
