Madame Imelda to bring icon of Sto. Niño de Cebu to Ilocos Norte

In celebration of her 85th birthday on July 2, Ilocos Norte Congresswoman Imelda Marcos (2nd district) will offer an extraordinary gift to the Ilocanos by bringing to the province the most venerated religious statue of the Holy Child of Cebu.

The Cebu religious icon will arrive in Ilocos Norte on July 1 and will visit the different town parishes until July 8, 2014.

The Congresswoman said that in the Visayas, particularly in her hometown, the Sto. Niño is considered as the most well-known religious artifact and venerated by the devout Warays.

The pilgrimage of Sto. Niño is also part of the upcoming 500th year celebration of its arrival in the country.

“This is a great blessing and privilege for the people of entire Northern Luzon that the Sto. Niño de Cebu is visiting Ilocos Norte for the first time. It has brought countless miracles to us for almost 500 years now,” she said.

Meanwhile, Laoag Bishop Renato Mayugba said the Catholic faithful under the Diocese are elated to welcome the arrival of the Cebu Sto. Nino icon.(pgin-cmo)
