LGU-Paoay to collect green fees, charges from tourists visiting town’s attractions

PAOAY, ILOCOS NORTE—The municipal government of Paoay here will soon collect green fees and charges from all local and foreign tourists who will be visiting several historical and beauty spots in this town following an approved municipal ordinance enacted by the Sangguniang Bayan.

Vice Mayor Jessie Galano, also SB presiding officer, said that the LGU-Paoay through the municipal treasurer’s office will start imposing the green fees on visiting tourists as well as charges for the use of the sites’ facilities upon the completion of the required public posting and publication of the ordinance in a local newspaper of general circulation.

Galano explained that the proceeds of the collected green fees and charges will be used mainly for the development and maintenance of all Paoay tourist sites.

Under the said ordinance, green fees and charges will be collected from tourists visiting the town’s tourist destinations such as the famous UNESCO World Heritage site–the centuries-old Paoay Church, Suba and Puro Culili sand dunes 4×4 eco-extreme adventure, Puro Culili and Onse Reefs fish sanctuary and diving site, the legendary Paoay Lake and Malacanang of the North in Suba.

In recent months, several building projects in Paoay were initiated by the provincial government of Ilocos Norte such as the Paseo de Paoay and Arte Luna art gallery in an effort to attract more tourists coming to this town. (Theo S. Guiang)
