Laoag cops net 24 drug traffickers

LAOAG CITY –OIC Chief of Police P/Supt. Jeffrey Gorospe reported that 24 drug personalities in Laoag so far have been arrested in the first half of the year.

He said that this increased number of arrest was the result of the intensified campaign against illegal drug trade in the city after Laoag City Mayor Chevylle Fariñas alerted the police that alleged “free tasting activities of illegal drugs” by some students were held in several areas in the city.

Gorospe said that in all their buy-bust and search operations, many sachets of alleged methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu known as poor man’s cocaine), were seized from the suspects. Drug paraphernalia were also confiscated such as disposable lighters, rolls of aluminum foil with shabu residue, improvised tooters, and marked money used in buy-bust operations. (Theo S. Guiang)
