The City of Laoag once again stood out in the national spotlight as it won third place in the Best Booth category in the recently concluded Philippine Travel Mart 2010 on September 3-5 held at SM Mega Trade Hall in Mandaluyong City.
Last year, Laoag City won first place for the third straight year from 2007-2009 making it a Hall of Fame awardee in this category. Only a finalist in 2006, Laoag City also bagged the title in 2004 and 2005.
This yearly exhibit, organized by the Philippine Tourist Operators Association, showcases the best tourist destinations and products of the participating Local Government Unit in the form of booth exhibits. Laoag City’s theme this year is “Sun and Sand”, featuring Sand Boarding and 4×4 Riding at the sand dunes of Brgy. La Paz, Laoag City. It must be noted that this kind of sand dunes formation in the Philippines is only located in Laoag City. This is one of the thrusts of the city in its eco-tourism drive.
The winners in the City Category were Davao City (1st place), Puerto Princesa (2nd place) and Laoag City (3rd place). In the Province Category the winners were Ilocos Norte (1st place), Province of Cagayan (2nd place) and Laguna (3rd place).
The participation of Laoag City was lead by the Laoag City Tourism and Social Concerns Council headed by ABC President and Tourism Officer Honorable Chevylle V. Fariñas, and her able staff.
